Tragedy in Anaheim: Pregnant Woman Killed in Crash, DUI Suspect Arrested

A devastating crash in Anaheim early Sunday morning has shattered a family’s anticipation, leaving a 24-year-old pregnant woman dead and a community reeling from yet another tragedy linked to impaired driving. Police have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

The collision occurred shortly after midnight, around 12:09 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, at the intersection of North Anaheim Boulevard and the eastbound 91 Freeway Frontage Road. Authorities report that a white Toyota Camry, traveling southbound, was struck by a gray Lexus whose driver allegedly ran a solid red light.

The victim, identified by family members as Bianca Esquivel, was the front passenger in the Camry. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Esquivel, 24, was expecting a child.

The driver of the Lexus, 24-year-old Daniel Ramos of Riverside, was taken into custody immediately following the crash. According to the Anaheim Police Department, Ramos exhibited “objective signs and symptoms of impairment” at the scene. He was initially booked on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Police have indicated that given the victim’s pregnancy, prosecutors may consider additional charges, which is common practice in California for fatal DUI incidents involving an unborn child.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent and deadly risks of impaired driving across the state. Statistics show that the consequences of choosing to get behind the wheel while intoxicated continue to devastate Californian roads. Preliminary projections for 2025 indicated that alcohol-related traffic deaths would account for about one-third, or between 1,300 and 1,400, of all roadway fatalities statewide. Furthermore, nearly 70% of alcohol-involved fatalities occur during weekend and nighttime hours, mirroring the circumstances of the Anaheim crash.

The demographic involved in this particular case also fits a sobering trend. Data compiled in 2024 and 2025 suggests that drivers between the ages of 21 and 34 are responsible for nearly half of all DUI fatalities, highlighting the need for continued public safety and educational efforts within this age group.

While the driver of the Lexus and two of his passengers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, the community is focused on the devastating loss suffered by Bianca Esquivel’s loved ones. Her sudden death has turned what should have been a period of joyous anticipation into an agonizing time of grief. This tragic event underscores the profound and irreversible damage that reckless decisions can inflict on innocent lives.

The Anaheim Police Department is urging anyone with further information about the collision to contact their traffic investigators directly as the investigation remains ongoing. The path forward for the victim’s family will be long and difficult, marked by loss that was entirely preventable.
