Coshocton County weather forecast Wednesday calls for a little snow this afternoon

Light Snow to Ring in the New Year: What Coshocton County Needs to Know for New Year’s Eve

Well, Coshocton, it looks like Mother Nature is giving us one last gentle send-off for the year. This Wednesday, December 31st, the local forecast calls for a picturesque dusting of snow to arrive in the afternoon, just in time to set the scene for New Year’s Eve festivities. It is the perfect winter backdrop, but it also comes with a friendly reminder to bundle up and drive safely as we ring in 2026.

The system moving through the area is expected to bring snow showers during the day and continue into the night, which is typical for our region at this time of year. Daytime temperatures will hover in the upper 20s, with a high of about 29 degrees Fahrenheit, but the wind chill will make it feel much colder. The chance of seeing flakes is around 20% in the afternoon, but the precipitation will likely become more consistent after sunset, possibly bringing a few inches of accumulation through the 24-hour period.

This December weather is right in line with the seasonal trend for Coshocton County. Historically, the cold season here is quite snowy, and forecasts have pointed to late December and early January as some of the snowiest periods for the Ohio Valley this winter. While the snowy outlook provides a beautiful, serene setting, anyone heading out to celebrate tonight should prepare for hazardous conditions.

For those planning a night on the town, the local events scene is busy despite the chill. Legacy Lanes is hosting a New Year’s Eve Ball Drop event, and there are other family friendly gatherings, like the party at the Community Center on Brown’s Lane. The River Church is also hosting its New Year’s Eve service for those looking to start the new year in fellowship. If you are planning to attend an evening event, it is always a good idea to check in with the venue to confirm their schedule given the possibility of snow.

Travel is definitely something to keep in mind, especially once the afternoon snow begins. The Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office has advised motorists to drive very cautiously due to roadways being hazardous with snow and ice, a standard Level 1 snow emergency advisory. Additionally, drivers on the west side of the county should be aware that County Road 24 between Township Road 35 and County Road 28 is temporarily closed until 4:00 p.m. today for tree trimming, a project that is, appropriately, weather permitting.

Whether you are cozying up at home with family, watching movies, or venturing out to one of the local celebrations, remember to allow extra time for travel and keep an eye on the forecast. Have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve, Coshocton County, and here’s to a wonderful 2026!
