The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later ruled his death a homicide, citing the cause as blunt head trauma and stab wounds. The former athlete’s case is now being reviewed alongside three other brutal killings that occurred in the immediate vicinity between October 2025 and late January 2026. Then, just days after Johnson was discovered, another victim, Mauro Alfaro, was found on January 26, having died from blunt force trauma.
Detectives have confirmed that all four victims were unhoused and living in encampments near the 1300 block of East 120th Street, fueling the current investigation into whether a single suspect may be targeting vulnerable people in the area.
