Salisbury Teens Charged With Murder After Deadly Princess Anne Shooting
A shocking wave of violence has rocked the Eastern Shore this week, as two teenagers from Salisbury, Maryland, have been arrested and charged with the murder of one man and the shooting of another following a dramatic incident on Monday afternoon.
Maryland State Police confirmed the arrests Tuesday, detailing the serious charges filed against the two minors: a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, both residents of Salisbury. The charges include first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and robbery, among other related counts.
Tragedy on Dryden Lane
The investigation began after authorities were called to the 11000 block of Dryden Lane in Princess Anne shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26. Upon arrival, emergency responders located two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle parked in the roadway.
Tragically, 46-year-old Derrick Knox, also a Salisbury resident, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical services personnel. An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore later confirmed the cause of death as homicide by gunshot.
The second victim, 41-year-old Kevin Pillar, was immediately transported to shock trauma for urgent medical treatment.
Swift Arrests Follow Incident
The arrests came quickly as the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit. The 17-year-old female suspect was located and taken into custody without incident shortly after the shooting, found near Stewart Neck Road and Beckford Avenue. She was processed and subsequently transported to the Somerset County Detention Center, where she was ordered to be held without bond.
The second suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested the following morning at a residence in Salisbury. Both teens are now facing the gravity of the murder and robbery charges, which involve consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Somerset County.
Investigation Continues
While the swift arrests bring a measure of closure to the initial phase of the investigation, questions remain for the community. Police have indicated that the preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was not a random act of violence, although a clear motive has not yet been determined or released to the public. The presence of robbery charges, however, indicates a potential line of inquiry for investigators.
Authorities also noted that they anticipate additional arrests as the investigation into this deadly daylight incident continues to unfold. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack. The community now awaits further details as the legal proceedings for the two young suspects begin.
